TURMEPA Academy Learning Programs
I. ZERO WASTE AND ZERO WASTE BLUE
In the daily lives of individuals at home, at school, preventing waste, using natural resources correctly, etc. Zero Waste Philosophy is explained. In addition, in parallel to the activities in our daily lives, Zero Waste practices on land are also addressed for seas and water resources through Zero Waste Blue learning programs.
II. IMPORTANCE OF SEAS AND WATER RESOURCES
The geographical characteristics of Turkey's seas, the oxygen and nutrients produced by the seas, the benefits of the seas, marine organisms, nutrients and minerals in the sea and available water resources are given. In addition, the seas, marine organisms, marine litter, the effects of marine litter on the ecosystem and environmental factors for sustainable seas and water resources are explained. In addition, current problems and solutions are mentioned and people are made to realize their individual responsibilities.
III. GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE:
The effects of global climate change such as melting of glaciers, warming of seas, rising waters are explained. Information is given about the United Nations Global Development Goals and the measures that countries should take in relation to global climate change.
IV. INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY:
After all learning programs, individuals are encouraged to produce scientific or functional projects that can protect the environment, seas and water as a result of their understanding of marine science, water science and individual responsibilities.
What Have We Gained?
WE AROUSED CURIOSITY We made them understand that the seas provide oxygen and the importance of the marine ecosystem for life on land and in the sea.
SEAS AND CLIMATE CHANGE: We made them realize the importance of the seas in climate change and the effects of climate change on the marine ecosystem.
SEAS AND ECOSYSTEM: We explained the role and importance of the seas in the ecosystem.
INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDY: We made them realize the importance of interdisciplinary work and how it complements each other.
WE ENABLED THINKING
IMAGINE They created ecosystem-based projects involving technology and art.FINDING SOLUTIONS: They created solutions to marine pollution through different projects and presentations.
INTER-SCHOOL COLLABORATION: They shared their thoughts with their peers, combined different ideas and came together for brand new projects.
INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY: They found solutions through curiosity, imagination and thinking and realized what they can do for themselves and the future of the world.
WE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN 4 STEPS
OWNING THE SUBJECT: We provided online and face-to-face trainings on zero waste, climate change, the importance of seas, Sustainable Development Goals.
LEARNING: At the end of the trainings, we enabled students to produce projects with their teachers and us at their schools.
INQUIRY: They questioned what they did, the environmental events, researched good examples and found solutions.
SHARING: Students who passed all stages shared their knowledge with their peers and families.
