Oceans & Seas Action Agenda Workshop Begins

As the TURMEPA Environment and Sustainability Team, we participated in the first day of the “Oceans & Seas Action Agenda” Workshop, organized by the COP31 Türkiye Presidency in Istanbul on 13–14 August, as part of the preparations for COP31, which will be hosted by Türkiye in Antalya.

The workshop brought together representatives of the COP31 Presidency, public-sector representatives from various countries, international organizations, civil society organizations working on climate and ocean issues, experts, and representatives of financial institutions. The priorities of the COP31 Oceans & Seas Action Agenda were discussed through a multi-stakeholder approach.

As part of the Marine Litter Initiative Working Group, established under the leadership of the Directorate General of Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, with contributions from TURMEPA, @turkiyecevreegitimvakfi and @tubitak, the ongoing work and recommendations developed in preparation for COP31 also contributed to the panel discussions.

The workshop addressed key priorities on the ocean and marine agenda in the lead-up to COP31, including blue carbon and the protection of marine ecosystems, sustainable ocean planning, energy transition, ocean-climate finance, and international cooperation.

As TURMEPA, we will continue to contribute our knowledge and experience to the COP31 preparation process, working to ensure that seas and oceans remain an integral part of climate action.
