Coastal Cleanup in Ayvalık on World Environment Day
During the coastal cleanup event held on June 5, World Environment Day, at Ayvalık’s Hakkıbey Peninsula, waste collected by volunteers was sorted, analyzed, and recorded in accordance with international standards.
Organized within the framework of the European Environment Agency’s Marine Litter Watch (MLW) Programme, the event was carried out in collaboration with TÜRÇEV, Ayvalık Municipality City Council, TURMEPA Ayvalık Representation, Setur Marina, the National Parks Branch Directorate, TEMA Ayvalık, the Ayvalık Nature Platform, Ayvalık Sailing Sports Club, and Tarım Kredi Tohumculuk TAREKS Altınova. TURMEPA Ayvalık Representative Süleyman Ercan also took part in the event.
The data collected will contribute to scientific studies aimed at protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, while the event served as an important example of raising awareness about environmental pollution and encouraging public engagement.
