Diving into the Depths of the Bosphorus on Cabotage Day
As part of the Maritime and Cabotage Day celebrations organized by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, TURMEPA conducted an underwater cleanup in Beşiktaş on July 1st, in collaboration with TURMEPA Volunteer Divers and the Active Divers Club Sports Association.
Within a short time, divers removed a surprising amount of waste from the seabed. Among the items collected were mobile phones, makeup products, household items, and glass bottles — a striking reminder of the pollution affecting the Bosphorus. The event, aimed at raising awareness about marine pollution, drew significant attention from both the media and the public.
Participants had the opportunity to learn from TURMEPA representatives about the environmental damage caused by marine litter. The recovered waste will be showcased in the TURMEPA Underwater Waste Exhibition and Educational Workshop to highlight the importance of protecting our seas.
